Revisiting Your Goals

Hey friends. How many of you set goals at the beginning of each year? I am one of those people. I decided to revisit the goals I sent for 2015. In case you forgot. here’s what I wrote:

“For this year, I want to focus more attention on growing closer to God and getting back to optimal health. I hope to push myself harder when I exercise, leave behind foods that are not helping fuel my body, and spend more time doing activities that I truly love. I plan to spend more time outdoors hiking and I have always want to learn to play the guitar. So much of my time for the past two year has been spent on finding a teaching position and completing my Masters of Arts in Teaching degree that I have failed to pursue my hobbies and other activities that I enjoy. Furthermore, I am realizing that I need to establish a better work-life balance.”

I have a bad habit of setting goals and not planning out how I hope to accomplish them. With this in mind, I am going to take this paragraph and come of with a plan for how I plan to achieve the goals I have set for myself. Part of growing closer to God (in my opinion) includes memorizing scripture verses and that is something I desire to become more disciplined in doing. In terms of optimal health, I have been focusing on this quite a bit in the past couple of months. I am attempting to incorporate fitness into multiple areas of my life (walking to the grocery store rather than driving, teaching group fitness classes, etc.). We are almost half way through the year…..I encouraged you to revisit your goals. It’s never too late to accomplish your goals and I would love to help you get there!

Accountability and Encouragement

Hello friends. I am sorry for my absence. Things got a little crazy for us recently. I won’t got into all the details, but my family and I would appreciate your prayers. I recently auditioned to be a group fitness instructor and made the cut! I am very excited to start a new challenge that will push me outside of my comfort zone. One of the reasons I love BeachBody programs is because I just follow along (no thinking required). I loved doing CrossFit because we were constantly doing something new that pushed us to our limits. Unfortunately, the rates were a little too steep for us. After years of being a gym rat I got bored and tired of thinking about what to do each day…..hence my love for programs like Insanity that push me to work hard without forcing me to think about what I need to do to make that happen. Now, however, I will be the one leading people. I am nervous about it, but I am also very excited! If you are in the Lexington area I will be teaching at the YouFit club off Richmond Road. I would love to have you in my class!

I also wanted to let people know that I will be leading a FREE Food and Fitness group June 21 to July 11.

For the group I would expect people to set two goals they hope to accomplish in 30 days. I will ask participants to exercise (walking, running, whatever strikes their fancy) three times a week (at least 30 minutes each time) and eat healthy. We will encourage each other. I am also hoping people will share healthy recipes and tips with each other. I’m hoping this will serve as a “jump start” for living a healthier life style. Accountability and encouragement. The BeachBody programs are great and have helped me a lot, but everyone has their own path to getting healthy. Please contact me if you are interested in participating in my Food and Fitness group please contact me. Let’s get healthier this summer!

You decide what’s up next

Hey friends. I had a few people say that they enjoy reading my blog and inquired about why I have been so quiet. I had all intentions of doing a better job of keeping up with it….but I sometimes get discouraged and think, “who wants to read anything I write?” I’m trying to get over that and I appreciate those individuals who read it and have encouraged me to start writing again. It is cathartic. I’m curious about what all you want me to write about….what interests all of you? Give me some topics or ideas that you think sound interesting. For now, here is a great Motivation Monday picture:

I really am looking forward to hearing back you about what you would like me to write about!

Planning for Success

Hey friends! Sorry for being so quiet lately. I’ve been a busy lady and this got pushed to the back burner. Recently I have been doing Insanity: Max 30. I LOVE it. It’s 30 minutes a day and no driving to a gym. Win-win! I get up around 5:10 in the morning and get my workout out of the way early in the day. It gives me time to get things done in the evening and for walking my dogs and/or going for a run. One of the things I did when I got the Insanity: Max 30 set was create this chart for record keeping:

It captures my obsessive nature quite well, but it also demonstrates the importance of planning. I have discovered that I must have a set workout time and STICK to it. If I don’t, it doesn’t happen. As someone once said, “Failing to plan is planning to fail.”

If you are a skeptic, Insanity Max:30 is a great workout. It’s all about the amount of effort YOU put into it.

pictureThis was from today’s workout—look at the sweat on my shirt. I worked out hard! Since starting Shakeology and following the 21 Day Fix eating plan I have lost about 8 pounds and my clothes are getting big on me. I love how I feel, but even more, I LOVE the balance I have achieved through BeachBody. I wish everyone would try the programs for themselves—they would love them and they could save money! Another win-win!

Goal Setting

Hey friends. Something I try to do with my students on a regular basis is set goals. I ask them to think about something they want to accomplish that week and then think of something they want to accomplish more long term (usually in that 9 week grading period). It’s my way of trying to get them to think about their potential and what they can achieve. We then review of the goals later and adjust them. Unfortunately, I haven’t been doing this as regularly as I would like. With testing coming up the students are learning a lot of material and they’ve had a lot of homework lately; therefore, I’ve spent more time assisting them with their homework and re-teaching information that may have confused them. But thinking about this goal setting has reminded me of the important of setting goals for myself. I have spent so much time focusing on completing my Masters of Arts in Teaching, KTIP (Kentucky Teacher Internship Project), and learning as a first year special education teacher that I have not set personal goals for myself. Tonight I thought about my passions and what I wish to accomplish. Here are the goals that I have set for myself:

-Run two 5Ks in May

-Train for and run another half marathon this summer

-Train for and run another full marathon this fall

-Research and then work towards becoming a group fitness instructor on a very part-time basis

-Continue working out at 5am and working towards becoming toner and leaner (healthy)

-Assist others with being as healthy as possible (post at least once a day on social media about exercise and nutrition to get people engaged and thinking about how they can be as healthy as possible)

-Memorize at least one scripture verse each week

-Pray and read my Bible daily

These are basic and still in the beginning stages. In the next few days I will work on making them more specific and measurable. This, however, is a good started. So, what are your goals? What do you wish to accomplish? Sit down and really think about it…..and then write it down! Let’s work towards our goals together.

I used to be a skeptic about at home fitness routines, but in the fall of 2013 I got rid of my gym membership to save money. I purchased Insanity and loved it. I also lift weights at home. Recently, I did the 21 Day Fix and have had good results. I have lost a little bit of weight, but more importantly, I feel healthier and have toned up a bit. I took before and after pictures, but my pictures accidentally got deleted during my trip to Washington D.C. last week. Instead of showing you my results, I am sharing a friend’s results. Take a look at this picture:

These are her results after 21 Days. 21 Days people! Shakeology (hello better digestion, better skin, more energy) + clean eating (containers that help you measure out the correct portion sizes and an easy formula to help you determine how many servings to eat each day) + exercise. 21 Day Fix

I’m very excited about round 2 of 21 Day Fix; it starts April 5th! What is it? It’s clean eating, at least 30 minutes of exercise each day, and (this time) we are adding in a daily Bible reading. The 21 Day Fix helps people eat the correct portion sizes as well as helps them eat food that will fuel their bodies so that they feel energized! In addition, you drink Shakeology once a day. Shakeology has minimized my sugar cravings and has increased by energy levels substantially. It’s got a lot of great stuff in it! Here’s just a preview of what to expect on the 21 Day Fix:

It’s such a user friendly program! Those little containers make eating the correct portion sizes very easy. Eat healthy and eat the correct amount for your body—cannot go wrong. I would love to have more people join. You need to reserve your spot by March 31st! Let’s create some new, healthy habits together.
